Jakarta - Mei 1998. Dari sela-sela kerusuhan nasional, terbentuklahStraightout yang diprakarsai olehMui (vocals) dan Pipinx (guitars). Pada awal musikalitasnya, Straightout di pengaruhi oleh band-band Hardcore seperti EarthCrisis dan strife. Namun seiring dengan berjalannya waktu, perjalanan panggung dan pergantian line-up yang tidak sedikit, mereka tidak lagi memainkan Hardcore. Pengaruh musikal mereka bergeser ke arah Band Metal macam Hamartia, Dead Blue Sky, Arch Enemy, The Black Dahlia Murder, Iron Maiden, hingga Cradle of Filth.
Straightout memiliki suatu ciri sendiri dalam bermusik, bernuansa kelam, sorrow, dan juga megah. Dipadati dengan tempo yang cepat, fill-in dan melodi-melodi yang kritis. Dari dentingan piano dan alunan gundah suara wanita. Hingga sayatan-sayatan gitar yang tebal mendalam. Diiringi oleh derasnya hentakan drum dan disuarai oleh teriakan pilu yang menggeram. Ketika perform, Straightout pun memiliki aksi panggung yang cukup sulit untuk dideskripsikan melalui tulisan semata. Mereka sangguh enerjik dan atraktif. Di drumi oleh Beni, yang merupakan seorang penabuh drum dari The Upstairs, yang merupakan band pionir Nuwave asal Jakarta. Serta Rebecca pada female voice, adalah seorang wanita berparas cantik dengan suara khas dan indah, yang sebelumnya juga sempat menjadi personil dari The Upstairs, dan juga grup dansa elektronik, Goodnight Electric.
Pada 25 April 2004 Straightout merilis debut full album bertitel Undying Beauty and the Symphony of Sadness. dalam bentuk CD dan Kaset di bawah naungan record indie label yaitu Bluesky Records dan bekerja sama dengan Diselexia Records(Malaysia) serta distribusikan secara online melalui www.interpunk.com.Album ini menuai respon positif dari fans dan pujian dari media underground lokal. Dan Terjual Sekitar 2000 copy, sehingga mengantarkan Straightout ke berbagai pentas indie hingga ajang pensi SMA bergengsi di Jakarta. Bahkan merambah ke luar kota seperti Bandung, Purwokerto, Semarang dan Surabaya. Dilanjutkan pada Februari 2005, mereka merilis split album dengan titel Endzweck Straightout. Split album ini dilakukan bersama Endzweck yang merupakan salah satu dari japanese hardcore hero's. Dimana saat ini band tersebut telah bergabung dengansalah satu lebel trendsetter metal hardcore dunia Goodlife Recordings, yang juga sempat menangani Avenged Sevenfold dan Poison The Well. Disusul dengan rangkaian Keep Music EvilTour 2005 pada 12 – 15 februari 2005 dimana Straightout bersama dengan Cassandra (Malaysian Metal Core) menjadi Headliner dalam tour di tiga kota yaitu Jakarta, Bandung, Semarangdan selalu sukses memerahkan suasana dan memompa adrenalinmassa di setiap kota-kota yang mereka datangi.
Pertengahan 2005, pergantian line up kembali terjadi. Kali ini tidak tanggung-tanggung, Rendy(gitar), Dony (keyboard) dan Bayu (vokal) keluar dari straightout. Namun kekosongan ini tidak membuat Straightout kehilangan semangat mereka, hingga Pada pertengahan 2006 terbentuklah line-up tersolid Straightout yaitu: Demise (eks-Sadistis)– vokal, Pipinx - guitars, Danny (eks-Perfect Minor) – guitars,Sonny - bass, Beni (drummer The Upstairs) - drums, Mela (additional player TheSastro) – keyboards dan Rebecca (eks-GoodnightElectric) - female voice.
Straightout kembali memasuki studio rekaman pada Desember2006, Proses rekaman itu sendiri sebenarnya hanya memakan waktu satu bulan, namun sayangnya dalam penyelesaian tahap akhir, album ini sempat tertunda. Salah satunyakarena banjir bandang yang menimpa ibukota. Setelah melewati berbagai macam proses dan kendala, akhirnya album kedua Straightout yang berjudul “Forsaken Upon Nemesis” pun dapat di rilis pada awal september 2007 ini. Berisikan dua belas lagu terbaru dengan komposisi musik yang lebih liar dari yang sebelumnya. (the ay)
