Usulan Pemekaran Provinsi Kepulauan Perbatasan Dideklarasikan

Bupati Maluku Barat Daya (MBD), Barnabas N. Orno, Jumat, menyatakan usulan Provinsi Kepulauan Perbatasan MBD yang dideklarasikan di lapangan Merdeka Kota Ambon, Kamis (3/11) malam, bertujuan menjaga keutuhan Negara Kesatuan republik Indonesia (NKRI).

Deklarasi usulan calon provinsi Kepulauan Perbatasan MBD dipimpin langsung pasangan Bupati - Wakil Bupati Barnabas N. Orno - Benjamin T. Noach serta Ketua DPRD setempat, Chao Petrus dan dihadiri sekitar 3.000 warga MBD yang sedang berada maupun bermukim di Kota Ambon.

Ketua DPRD, Chao Petrus membacakan deklarasi pemekaran provinsi baru yang berbatasan langsung dengan negara tetangga Timor Leste, dan disaksikan Wakil Gubernur Maluku, Zeth Sahuburua bersama seluruh Kepala Desa/Raja dan Camat se-kabupaten MBD.

Menurut Bupati, deklarasi pemekaran calon provinsi Kepulauan Perbatasan MBD merupakan upaya untuk mengejar ketertinggalan dan memperoleh kesejahteraan, sehingga sejajar dengan masyarakat di provinsi lain.

Dia mengatakan, otonomi daerah yang ditandai dengan pemekaran Maluku Barat Daya sebagai kabupaten dari induknya Maluku Tenggara Barat (MTB) delapan tahun terakhir, telah membawa banyak perubahan mendasar terhadap kemajuan pembangunan di wilayah bagian Selatan provinsi Maluku tersebut.

"Kami tidak memungkiri bahwa delapan tahun dimekarkan sebagai kabupaten, sangat terasa manfaatnya. Tetapi hal itu belum cukup karena geografis wilayah MBD yang berada di perbatasan dengan Timor Leste dan menjadi beranda negara, sangatlah menyulitkan masyarakat untuk meningkatkan derajat kehidupannya," katanya.

Dia mencontohkan rentang kendali dari Tiakur, ibu kota kabupaten MBD, maupun dari Kisar, menuju Ambon sebagai ibu kota provinsi, dirasakan masih sangat jauh karena keterbatasan sarana transportasi, di samping pelayanan kesehatan dan pendidikan masih sangat jauh dari harapan.

Menurutnya, potensi sumber daya alam (SDA) yang melimpah ditunjang dengan kualitas sumber daya manusia (SDM) memadai dan berkualitas, menjamin wilayah tersebut berkembang pesat menjadi wilayah pertumbuhan baru di kawasan yang berbatasan dengan Timor Leste dan Australia.
